Arrested councillor should have stepped-down “immediately”, says Cllr Gary Long
Lib Dem Group leader, Cllr Gary Long, today expressed surprise that Labour’s Cllr Hassan Ahmed did not step-down from his executive position as soon as he was arrested on suspicion of assault and sexual assault in July. Cllr Ahmed only eventually stepped-down yesterday after a local newspaper reported the arrest.
Cllr Long said: “I would expect the same or higher standards to apply to councillors as the council would expect to apply to its staff. I would have expected a member of staff to be suspended pending an investigation and therefore Cllr Ahmed should have stood down immediately.”
